Many of the items chosen will help students to take time to focus on themselves and their positive mental health. They often come to the special education room looking for a snack, a fidget, a chance to talk, and a break from the anxiety they are feeling in the regular education classroom. These items will help create a safe and calming place to help students decompress, reset, and regenerate. My special education students are dealing with a lot of trauma outside of school. The special education room is a haven for them to feel important, feel happy, and feel special. These items will help create this space and make this happen.
