Students are learning about the rich culture of our city, New Orleans, as well as the different media used by artists throughout history. Students not only learn about artists from around the world but local artists and artistry, which entails artist choice of media and art techniques. The demographics of students that I teach come from high poverty and crime areas of the city, and are black and brown children. Students will express their learning through a visual representation that explores how they see the city from a historical perspective. The media of glass, lights, and acrylic paint will be used to give a unique aesthetic appreciation for our city's rich heritage.
