Studies have shown that fluorescent lighting is not always a good thing for some people. Many schools and offices have fluorescent lighting because it is affordable. Students with Autism, Sensory Disorders and Dyslexia can have issues with fluorescent lighting. This type of lighting can cause many side effects or physical problems for students and adults. Some have a perceptual processing problem which causes strain, fatigue, slow reading rate, poor reading and headaches along with many other things. Students at our school can be screened to find a color and a colored overlay to use at home and in the classroom to reduce the problems associated with fluorescent lighting. My goal is to provide alternate lighting for my classroom. The products I am asking for will help with lighting in the general education classrooms that serve my special education students so that the use of fluorescent lights can be reduced. The colored paper will be used for students' worksheets and assignments.
