To help my students with moderate to severe disabilities learn amid the pandemic, we need hands on materials and flexible seating. Due to their disabilities, they aren’t able to comprehend what is going on with the pandemic. They lost so much time in person due to Covid, they were unable to keep up with the skills they had learned previously. They are having to be retaught what they already knew. Flexible seating allows my students to meet their sensory needs. I have a bean bag but it is falling apart and losing the insides. New flexible seating would help them be more successful in what they do and more students would have access to it at the same time. Hands on materials allow them to learn by feeling it and being able to see how it works and what it looks like. It will make them feel more accomplished by not only seeing it but being able to do the task also. Flashcards help them practice their reading skills and have one on one practice. Headphones let them access programs on the tablets at their level while not distracting the students around them doing their work. I hope with the gift of these materials, my students will gain back what they have lost during the pandemic.
