I have a big laboratory which is a part of my classroom. But due to COVID we had to be on virtual labs. I am using my lab space as classroom to make sure everyone maintains a safe distance from each other. Everyone in my class wears mask as because they want to keep each other & their families safe. When I am teaching wearing a mask, it’s hard for my students to hear me from the lab. Even I try to speak louder, the mask blocks & produces a muffled sound. Masks take away our ability to read lips and see facial expressions, which help us better understand what we're hearing.
In my classroom, I constantly raise my vocal volume in response to varying levels of background noise, causing vocal strain. Each and every time I talk, need to explain twice, one in front of the classroom & the other in the lab. It ruins the momentum of my teaching & sometimes my students seem to be off task as they loose the interest in the lesson.
I need a microphone with speakers for my classroom. A microphone lifts the teacher’s natural voice to help with classroom management while increasing intelligibility, which also decreases the need for repetition. It becomes much easier for my students and myself to communicate with each other.
