While exploring optional ways to make learning successful for struggling high school students, I discovered not confining them to a desk is beneficial. Letting them lay on their belly or sit on the floor up against the wall resulted in more turned-in work. I was amazed. Flexible seating and lap desks afford students a more comfortable learning experience. It gives students the autonomy of choosing what position and where they will choose to learn for that day. Comfortable students are more willing to engage in learning. All students deserve to learn.
