As the only special education classroom for pre-K-6th grades, my classroom has to be flexible and supportive in many ways, at all times. Getting flexible seating will allow my students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. It is also a great option for them to use to “take a break” or have some wind-down time if needed. With options like this available, other small groups of students I’m working with can continue with less disruption. Having a divider will also make it easier to give my students a little bit of a separate area to regroup. This is vital while I have other reading or math groups continuing. Making sure students are comfortable is also an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed significant differences in my students when they are allowed to have a choice. When it is their choice to utilize other seating options, they are more willing to follow rules and complete a task. Usually, given the choice for where they sit, they are more engaged and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at the table. My students are noticeably more engaged in their work and less disruptive of their peers when there are more choices available for them to work! The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options, more space to regroup, and more ways to present material and extra skill practice. This will all be beneficial for our classroom in many ways. Whether it is for a student that may just need space to sit comfortably and take time to regroup, or for a student to complete educational tasks successfully alone, having different options will be greatly beneficial!
