Many places and events have been canceled over the past couple of years due to COVID-19. Even before the pandemic, my students did not have as many opportunities to experience science as other districts could offer. Given many exhibits have closed or have limited space, they have even less opportunity now than before. The Oculus Quest 2 headsets will allow my students to experience science in a way they had not previously been able to. They would be able to explore different ecosystems, interact with different species from around the world, or even hold an atom in their virtual hands. Students will be able to get up close and personal with their science lessons, which will make their experience with learning one that will be memorable. Providing my students the opportunity to immerse themselves in their learning will foster a curiosity of the world, and hopefully a passion to investigate that curiosity. With the various apps and YouTube 360 videos available, the VR learning opportunities are endless.
