The pandemic has delivered a blow to the well-being of my students in the sense that they have been forced to essentially isolate themselves from peers and immersive learning experiences. VR has advanced to a point that it can help specifically in these two areas and be integrated seamlessly into existing classroom technology. VR allows exploration of different cultures, historic sites, and authors we study. The Oculus Rift VR headset will allow my students to visit a plethora of locations and interact with a variety of historic figures in ways that will make them more personal and impactful while providing an added bonus of social interaction otherwise unattainable at this time. In a world in which travel is not a real option, these interactions can help bring an understanding of others, empathy through exposure.
