When Covid hit in 2020, we were blindsided as were most schools across the nation. At the start of the 20-21 school year, we saw a decrease in the number of students in our classrooms as many were doing homeschooling or online schooling. Although these alternatives certainly became popular, nothing quite replaces what an actual classroom can offer. I teach 3rd grade so my students were in 1st grade when the pandemic hit. These are crucial hands-on learning years. Many home schooled and online schooled students don't have the opportunities to manipulate items for a more thorough learning experience. I feel like there are certain objectives in math and science that really need extra attention. The basic math facts in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division can not be practiced enough and I am always looking for ways to enhance my small math groups. I chose the Power Pens and the math quiz cards for my small group/individualized learning. In science, I picked out the Robot Crawler and Mechanical Claw. These are kits that students can build and manipulate. They are reusable as well. My students love to make/build things with their hands and they are not sitting in front of a screen. The last 2 items I chose are Stem Perfect Pairings. This encompasses math and science along with books that pair with the hands on activities. The literature shows how the experiments relate to real world situations. I appreciate this opportunity to enhance my students' learning through hands-on and literature.
