Microscopes are central to conducting rigorous biology and environmental science research. With the right tools, students will be able to collect data on cells, soil samples, aquatic invertebrates, and more. A good microscope will be transformative to my ability to design more sophisticated investigations for students, including tracking daphnia heart rate for homeostasis, counting pollen grains in soil cores to do paleoclimate analysis, and comparing water quality indicators to microscopic organisms found within bodies of water in our community. My students will have the opportunity to do REAL science research on a regular basis. Students can help each other obtain the right specimen views since they are all able to see the screen at the same time. Most of my current set of microscopes are nonfunctional and with this one, students can view the screen and see their specimen much easier with this updated technology.
