Covid has really made an impact on my first-grade students in several ways. First, they are learning to be students, and second, they are lacking the fundamentals and basic skills that are normally established by the time they reach first grade. Covid interrupted their Pre-K and kindergarten years; their informative years. Over the past several years of teaching first grade, I have observed my students lacking creative thinking and problem-solving skills. I have also noted that many of them love to keep their hands busy. The busier their hands are the more engaged they become. Data has shown that over the years our students are lacking in skills that aid in measuring and collecting data and problem-solving. I believe that STEM activities will help build a foundation to strengthen these skills. The STEM kits will help bridge skills from reading, writing, math, as well as, problem-solving, creative thinking, and collaboration. All of which help to grow the students to be well rounded, not just for the classroom, but as an adult in their communities. My goal is to help ignite my students' love and passion for learning. My goal is to help build a strong foundation for problem-solving, creative imagination, and collaboration. I want to build a great foundation in life skills that will cross over to academics to help them be successful in whatever facet of life their future brings them.
