Over the last couple of years, my first grade students have been restricted on certain things they are able to do or not do in our classroom due to COVID-19. There are many reasons I believe it is important for students to have Flexible Seating options in our classroom. Due to COVID-19 guidelines (staying at least 6 feet away from people), we have not been able to utilize carpet time like we have in the past. As an educator, I know how important carpet time is for student movement and engagement. Students should be given the opportunity to get their wiggles out. Wobble chairs, stools, and bouncy band wiggle wobble chair feet will allow students the option to wobble, rock back and forth, or bounce while completing their work. Giving my students the freedom of having flexible seating, will create a space for students to find the best way to stay focused and engaged during a lesson. I have seen how empowered students feel when they are given choices. By providing flexible seating, my goal is for students to feel some degree of control over their environment.
