Over the past two years during the pandemic, my students have had limited quality literature at their fingertips. Books in the hands of children opens worlds and perspectives in ways that virtual learning activities cannot. In addition, virtual learning during the pandemic and limited movement within the classroom due to safety Covid-19 protocols has made it difficult for students to activate their brain/body connection. Research shows that movement increases oxygen and blood flow, thus enhancing the ability to learn while improving mental wellness. This project will allow me to fill my classroom library with books to engage all readers, while at the same time exposing them to diverse cultures, genres, and perspectives. In addition, this project will help purchase wobble disks that will allow necessary movement that all students need, even within the confines of Covid-19 safety recommendations. These disks can be used at individual student desks (or around the room), thus allowing movement while sitting or standing. Through this project, my students will gain the ability to move no matter where they are, as well as have fingertip access to rich, quality literature. Reading+movement=cognitive growth!
