My students came into first grade showing huge deficits in letter recognition and knowledge of letter sounds due to the pandemic, virtual learning, and limited access to technology and materials. Without these skills, my kids will not be able to decode words and have a strong foundation for reading. These tablets will allow me to set up engaging literacy centers giving my students access to many online platforms promoting literacy, reading fluency, decoding skills, and so much more! My ESL students and low-performing students will especially benefit since these online programs offer individualized lessons, differentiated materials to meet all student needs, and visual/auditory supports. They have so much potential and I would be doing my students a disservice if I didn't try to provide them with as many learning opportunities and tools to support their academic growth.
