If funded, these materials will help my students re-tell favorite stories by using hands on characters. The re-telling story kits encourage the children to tell the story by describing and recalling characters, events and details. These will be used in the classroom with 2-4 students. I will read The Very Hungry Caterpillar, then I will have the students retell the story using the magnetic pieces. I will ask them questions as they are retelling. The process of retelling promotes comprehension and vocabulary development. It also allows aids the students in learning about plot, characters, and sequence of events~all things that contribute to being a good reader. Retelling also helps ELL students in their understanding of the stories.
