While my students have the opportunity to use actual drones to supplement the curriculum on Unmanned Aircraft Systems, my students lack the opportunity to experience the real-time, component of operating a manned aircraft. So many minute-by-minute decisions are made by pilots that cannot be experienced other than in a simulator or in an actual aircraft. To apply the concepts learned related to airframe system, avionics and flight instruments, students need a laboratory experience. The same trial and error approach allows students to integrate their body of knowledge into a holistic understanding of operating an aircraft by having access to a flight simulator. My students will gain confidence in their skills and be ready to pursue a career in aviation at a time when persons with those skill sets are in high demand.
