My students crave and need input in a large variety of ways; learning outside of a pen and paper is so important for their engagement! Through the pandemic, Virtual learning has decreased opportunities for many to learn through active and physical engagement outside of an iPad. I am yearning to help close the gaps in their educational needs. Using their hands together with their eyes in a variety of ways helps bridge those gaps. Writing in sand with their fingers, forming words with bright lettered cubes, physically putting colorful numbers in place to see place value come together and taking pieces apart to see fractions will make my classroom come alive! Research shows that multi-sensory learning opportunities, specifically for those with learning disabilities, can enhance progress and learning and I am yearning to provide more opportunities for my students for this type of learning! IEP's give the written support; I want to give the physical and emotional support they need to make as much progress as possible by giving every opportunity to actively learn. I want resources to be open in my classroom and available for student choice. I have seen how choice can positively affect my students work ethic and outlook and hope that providing additional options will help us all grow even more!
