To help my students amid the pandemic, I could use a leveled classroom library. As a first year teacher who came into the classroom mid-year this year, my supplies are scarce. I do not have a variety of books or enough books to implement guided reading within my classroom. I believe having a leveled classroom library would allow my students to pick books that are of their interests and will keep them engaged in meaningful learning. By having a leveled classroom library I can ensure each student is reading at their appropriate level and will allow me to teach reading foundational skills as well as individualize learning for each student, thus creating a learning environment that will succeed even amid the pandemic and allow students the opportunity to succeed and celebrate their success each day. Additionally, having a culturally diverse library is extremely beneficial in allowing students to see that we aren’t all the same but we can celebrate the differences in each other. In a place where we don’t have a diverse group of students or the ability to travel because of the pandemic, it is of utmost importance that children be exposed to the diverse world we live in and how we can celebrate that. The effects of the pandemic will long be felt but by individualizing each student's learning, allowing them to learn about things that interest them, and keeping them engaged in meaningful learning, we will succeed in developing learners and foster a love for learning.
