Our student body is unique in the fact that most are of middle eastern descent. I absolutely believe in exposing the students to as much music as possible whether it is classical, Latin, contemporary. Building a gateway to the world through music is an incredible opportunity to teach students the value of teamwork, cooperation, and perseverance. I envision this project as an absolutely wonderful chance to incorporate steel drumming into our ensembles and overall music program. Eventually, after being able to share the sounds of the islands with our students and community, I hope to increase interest and support to grow into a large steel drum ensemble, performing in metro Detroit.
