Crayons, paint, paintbrushes, glue, paper, Play-doh, and pencils are the key to my students' creative writing. Anytime I have given my students a new writing assignment, whether it's opinion, persuasive or informational writing, I make sure to have a correlated art project. I have found that when my students get to do the art project first, their writing becomes more remarkable. They become highly motivated. They do not get stumped trying to figure out what to write. They are able to make the art project their own and it inspires their writing. Giving them the resources necessary to be creative and imagine new things, will help them continue to thrive throughout multiple subjects.
