Children learn emergent literacy skills during pretend play, specifically learning about the different situations in which reading and writing may be needed. Pretend play is critical for developing oral language as well. Not all children learn in the same way, and they need multiple exposures in various circumstances to understand concepts. Pretend play in my classroom is intentionally planned for literacy play-based learning to create successful Pre-K students! My students are constantly missing school due to quarantine during this pandemic. It is my hope to make the most of our precious days together. Creating play-based literacy and math centers will allow students to not only learn during table time, but also while they are playing with friends. These materials will allow my students to use centers daily to help guide them in reading and math. I want them exposed to numbers and letters in every center! Each item in the shopping cart is meant for our nine different centers in our room. My students will have a comfy chair to read books by themselves. They will build letters in the block center and be able to use manipulatives to write incredible stories in the art center. These amazing students will use their fine motor skills to put together numbers and letters with several of the game activities. Thank you for helping my students to be the BEST readers, the BEST mathematicians, the BEST builders, the BEST scientists and most of all to have the BEST day in Pre-K!
