All successful musicians use recordings as tools to improve their craft. Having the ability to record oneself with quality microphones and equipment allows for better learning and reflection and opens the doors for possibilities to improve listening, become more skilled in instrument playing, and to grow as a musician. Teaching in a low income area does not mean my students aren't capable of being amazing musicians, and having the ability create high quality recordings allows for my students to hear themselves to diagnose issues and to reflect for both self and class improvements. Giving students the ability to make high quality recordings of themselves will open up doors for post-high school opportunities like scholarships and college opportunities, as well. Covid-19 prevented my students from playing in the orchestra setting for almost 2 years. Part of our catching up is teaching students how to listen and craft goals that are purposeful and applicable to each students' learning trajectory. With this project's completion, we will be able to record students for solo competitions and scholarships, record our orchestras for assessment and growth, and submit our recordings to local and national honor opportunities. These areas will improve my students' morale, self-efficacy, and opportunities beyond high school.
