Students need to destress and by giving them the opportunity to use the items in Maker Spaces, they get to play games, color, read, and learn to socialize with others. It is a time to relax and enjoy time with themselves and others. An example of the items I would like for the library is the getting to know you ball. The students like to gather and play games and I thought they could throw the ball around and answer the questions that are on the ball. I have special needs students that love to put together pieces and I thought the Snap Circuits Classic and magnetic building tiles, would help them be creative and enjoy working on a project they can do themselves. The shuffleboard and curling tables would be fun at lunch. The students can collaborate and learn how to play these games and have competitions. The coloring pages and different styles of pencils can give students a chance to relax and draw to help alleviate stress or just enjoy being creative. Books are also important to learn about different areas of their lives, and learning to draw or color is important ways to ease everyday life. I have a STAND class that meets everyday in here and we are their mentors. The getting to know you books and ball will help them to get to know their peers. The books I like to read to them about stress and coping skills to help them build a good self esteem and handling lives everyday stressors. Games can be used as a social skill to help with getting to know others and learning about themselves as well as their peers. I feel these items for students to feel comfortable in an environment.
