I started teaching in my first ever classroom partway through this school year. I "inherited" an outdated and unorganized classroom library that has proven ineffective to inspire my 3rd graders to love to read. I've watched them stand in front of the shelves at a loss for what to read next because they can't easily find something they like. And, it doesn't help that many of the books are torn and look old. (What eight year old wants to read a book with tiny words and a grayed, ripped cover?) With this project, I will reorganize and refresh my classroom library. This process with help my students feel energized to find a new book to read and get them excited to try something new! With a broken few years, these students have had a broken desire to read independently. My wish is that, despite COVID-19, they will be able to find a book they're passionate about in my classroom.
