Over the past two years, my school has been implementing Great Expectations. Great Expectations is a program that motivates, challenges, and inspires individuals to achieve excellence in learning. We talk daily about life principles and expectations that encourage them to be the best students they can be. I have found that these expectations are very important because they teach our kids to be kind, caring, and decent human beings. The past two years have come with hardship for many, making it evident that we need to teach our kids these important life skills just as much as we teach them academics. Each of these books will allow me to strategically incorporate life principles into my classroom. It brings the expectations to life, by allowing me to read a story that relates to each situation. Students will thrive from these expectations such as: cheering each other to success, using good manners, and encouraging each other to do their best. During a pandemic, we could all use a little more love and kindness. When my students leave my class I want them to have learned everything they need for the next year, but I also hope they leave remembering how important it is to just be nice.
