Every junior in our state takes the ACT test as a way to measure their college and career readiness. Since this procedure has been in place, my school has seen a decline in the ACT math scores. Purchasing extra calculators as well as ACT prep books will allow me to help my students have adequate resources to study for the test instead of going in “blind.” Using these books I will be able to identify the math concept gaps caused by COVID and help students narrow their focus on what they should be studying. Having more calculators available will allow students to practice using the calculator before the day of the test. The ACT prep books will allow students to take multiple practice tests and become more familiar with the ins and outs of the test. This will help students gain confidence before taking the test. I can help students practice utilizing different test taking strategies and see which works best for them. This will help the students achieve higher scores. These high scores will help students with acceptance from more schools and potentially help students receive more merit based scholarships.
