My project brings a place in our classroom for me to work with small groups. With the learning gaps caused by COVID-19 disruptions, my class has reading levels from pre-Kindergarten (do not know the sounds of the letters) to on-level and every step in between. Whole group lessons do not adequately meet the needs of such diverse learners. I need a place to work with small groups to provide targeted, explicit instruction and to scaffold learning so that all students can build the confidence to work and learn collaboratively. The Dual Language Program has an element called the Bilingual Research Center where a Spanish-speaking student works to research a subject with an English-speaking student. They each read and write in their dominant language and then share their discoveries to create a report together. This table will also provide a designated place for this so we no longer have to rearrange furniture to foster this collaboration.
