As a school that educates the whole child the arts are an essential part of learning. While our students work hard in math and reading, we also work to build their skills in creating and problem-solving. Much of this happens around our school musical. This year we are performing The Little Mermaid with a cast of over 100 students and the goal is to have every student in the school have a hand in scenery and costume making. We try to give our kids the opportunity to take ownership of their work. Much happens on the stage as they create their dances and blocking, but a great deal happens behind the scenes as well. Our students actively engage in the creation of our scenery, props, and costumes each year, our goal this year is to have materials for every child to help. We hope that with these additional materials we can have 1st graders sewing fish, 2nd graders building turtles, 3rd graders making coral reefs, and so on. Our creative capacity is endless if we have the materials to make their dreams a reality on our stage.
