One major consequence of the past 2 years is children lost opportunities to develop social skills. Games are not only great social activities, they can teach skills like planning, problem solving, camaraderie, patience, graciousness, and many other soft skills. Play gives children a chance to practice what they are learning - Fred Rogers. Children need more opportunities to play and explore. Games allow them to have a safe and constructive outlet to explore choices and to see the consequences of their actions. I can't wait to introduce games to as many of our students as I can.
