Students on the spectrum benefit from having tools like fidgets and sensory items to help them self-regulate. It is important for our students to have options to choose from when needing to take sensory breaks and or emotional breaks. These items include things that can help my students with their visual sensory, sight, sound, and overall nervous system function. For example, the speaker can allow us to play white noise to block out the chatter or little noises a student might pick up on or fixate on. The weighted blanket adds pressure to the body that a student on the spectrum benefits from to calm their nervous system. The first thing the students need at school is to feel safe and secure in the classroom. When a student feels like they have tools that they can use to help them calm their anxiousness, support their emotional well-being, and overall mental health, they do better through out the school day!
