The pandemic has built a lot of anxiety in young children. It has caused emotional issues and fear of others outside their circle of close friends. Coming back to school, the children are trying to work through these pandemic-fueled anxieties and fear of unknown people. This project will provide a variety of books, a drying rack and art supplies so our children can experience art more often. Painting and coloring are therapeutic and soothing to my class. The students can express themselves through art and work through some of that anxiety. Children appear uncomfortable with those peoples and cultures outside of the small circle of people they've interacted with these past few years. I would like more books that promote diversity and inclusion. Through these books, the children will be able to break down the social-emotional walls which have been unintentionally built over the past few years. This project will help me further my effort to create an environment of reverent curiosity instead of wariness of the many cultures of our world and break down the social-emotional walls that have been unintentionally put up as a result of the pandemic.
