I teach grade 8 special education reading. My students struggle with reading, but genuinely want to improve their reading. Unfortunately, however, my school does not have high-interest, low-level books, educational games, or enough headphones. Therefore, I need books and games that are engaging and will help my students improve their reading skills. In order to engage my students and get them excited about reading, they need high-interest books at an appropriate reading level. The games will be used to improve students' social interactions and their reading skills. The headphones will be used to improve their listening comprehension skills. The books will be used to expand our classroom library and provide options appropriate for middle school students' interests and reading level. I want to provide my students with a safe and supportive learning environment that helps them grow as readers. These resources are needed to support my special education reading program and will provide opportunities for students to increase their confidence while also improving their literacy and social skills.
