These books will be used for independent reading, mentor text for writing, and biography projects. I have been slowly building up my library with texts and stories that reflect the culture of my students. It is important that my students see the possibilities of who they are and what they can be. In addition, my students need role models for their Wax Museum projects at the end of the year that reflect their identity. Every year, students complete a biography project and "perform" in a Wax Museum. Many of the books that I have chosen will give them options that are a better reflection of the contributions of Latinos to arts, literature, sports and science.
