Early chapter books give confidence to emerging readers, especially students who are reading below grade level. Having a chapter book instead of picture books designed for young children gives older kids social confidence while giving them the tools they need for success. These new short chapter books and graphic novels will propel emerging readers into confident readers-- bridging the gap between when learning to read is hard and when it becomes fun. Our K-5 library services readers of all abilities, from English language learners to well advanced readers. Books open the world for children whose world is limited and challenging. Library books can be taken home when in-person school is limited, helping kids stay on track academically. If we make reading fun and relevant, children will thrive--at home and at school. "Teach a child to read and he will be forever free"-- Frederick Douglass.
