The requested materials will help my students engage, explore, explain and evaluate as they learn through this hands-on life science activity. In 6th grade, students learn a lot about ecosystems and how organisms interact with each other. This includes the relationship between predator and prey. Exploring owl pellets will allow students the chance to see firsthand how predator and prey are valuable parts of ecosystems. They will learn that each organism in an ecosystem has a special part to play and what would happen if that balance was thrown off. Being able to have an owl pellet and the required materials for each student will allow for social distancing along with a very powerful learning experience.
