As we continue to deal with the pandemic and other stressful life events, I am seeing more and more students who struggle to self-regulate and deal with big emotions. Many of these students have missed regular core instruction and are needing not just academic support but also social-emotional tools to help them increase their ability to cope and develop self-confidence. Teaching through storybooks is an effective and engaging way to introduce social-emotional skills and topics to young students. Social-emotional learning is needed now more than ever and plays an integral role in student success. I work hard to meet my students where they are and to incorporate a variety of strategies that support their learning. My hope is that these storybooks and interactive teaching methods will resonate and will help them to develop a better understanding of themselves, others, and the world around them.
