Learning the French language consists of learning to read, write, speak, and listen in French. Getting supplemental listening practice from authentic sources can prove to be especially difficult in the classroom setting. Listening to an audio or video clip as a class prevents students from being able to pause and replay the clip when needed for clarification. My students do have access to individual Chromebooks when needed but do not have access to individual headsets. Individual Chromebooks solve the problem of not being able to pause and replay audio and video clips . . . but it makes for a chaotic class session when every student has to listen to the audio through the Chromebook speakers. Students often struggle to concentrate and get discouraged when the listening comprehension difficulty is raised due to the extra background noise. Not only would headsets with microphones help with listening comprehension, they would also be excellent in helping students practice comprehension. These headsets would allow for students to record themselves speaking French and receive one-on-one feedback from me rather than me just having to listen broadly to students during class. The lap-sized whiteboards would greatly aid students in practicing their spelling and writing in French. These whiteboards would provide me with a fun and convenient way to quickly check student comprehension and provide one-on-one feedback because each student would have their own whiteboard, marker, and eraser to carry out spelling and writing activities.
