In today's every changing world, our students need the right tools to be successful. Our school uses chrome books with the students daily. Chrome books bridge the gap between students from low income families and those in more affluent areas. They allow for remote learning when necessary and for students to collaborate with other students and teachers. However, our students do not have their own set of headphones or a computer mouse to help them navigate the chrome books. This week our students took part in the IReady evaluation. We only have a handful of headphones that were donated many years ago. We have several students who struggle to read but the program will read the instructions to the student if needed. However, we didn't have enough working headphones for an entire class. The students were having to share (with cleaning in between), listen through only one side of the headset as the other was broken, or had to go without. This interrupted the students thought process and prevented them from being successful. The chromebooks do not have a mouse to help the students navigate school work. The screens are often times split in two and you need to scroll through reading and click on the correct answers or highlight sections of the work. We have students who are not doing as well as they are capable or giving up all together because they are frustrated. We need to help our students be as successful as they can and they need to be as safe as they can while doing it!
