The students I work with all benefit greatly through increased access to assistive technology. One of the many ways they benefit is that they are better able to develop their keyboarding skills to compensate for fine motor related writing deficits. Many of these students are very capable of becoming proficient at typing to compensate for long-term writing challenges, but lack the opportunities to do so. Computer lab time is not enough for them to acquire the repetition they need. Additionally, my students have been limited in their access to the many great programs and apps that are available because they are required to share with multiple students, reducing the time that each student has to access them. This decreases the programs/apps effectiveness significantly.
