One of the largest impacts of Covid-19 on my students has been the removal of in-person, experiential opportunities. This immersion is intended to provide both social and academic resources to facilitate practical, employable skills in a hands-on, in-person environment. The intent is to inspire students to offer repair services to neighbors and community members by hosting a small engine tune up service to Daybreak. Students will work in small groups using the requested tools, clamps, inspection camera and pulleys to fully disassemble and then reassemble a small engine of their choosing utilizing the tools graciously supplied by this project. The intent of these small work teams is to help facilitate relationships, team-building, and in-person interactions that have been greatly impacted by Covid. Students will then practice troubleshooting and diagnosing common small engine issues. The immersion will cultivate in a community service event where students will offer to repair small engines for the Daybreak community. Students will receive a micro-certificate for their work that may be utilized to expand their academic and business careers.
