Every day my students get to read a book of their choice for SSR (silent sustained reading), and they often choose books from my classroom library. By adding more books to my library, I am able to supply my students with more options to read. Although it's somewhat rare to have SSR in high school classes, every year, my students sing praises for the time they are given to read in class. Many of them have lost their love for reading, and this brings it back. Reading has also been a great escape for students during this trying time of the pandemic. I have also classroom supplies on the list because my students are often lacking the basic things they need to participate fully in class. This will help them get a more robust experience in my class.
