With a strong tier III structure in place and phonics lessons which target skill deficits, we are on our way to helping our students recover from COVID-19 learning loss. We now want to take our instruction to the next level with tools intended to maximize student learning. These include the following: Student mirrors so that teachers can reinforce mouth formation for each consonant and vowel sound making students aware of how sounds look and feel as they are produced, white boards with lines to encourage correct letter formation and spacing, and magnetic wands and chips to help with hands-on practice with phonemic awareness activities such as sound-spelling mapping. The requested tools will reinforce activities and strategies proven to help students learn learn to read and spell in an efficient and effective manner.
