This new PE equipment will help us to complete our class sets for almost every unit. During COVID we have strict rules on sharing equipment which has left some of our students without the ability to participate (at least until the equipment has been sanitized). If we receive this grant we would have enough equipment for each student to use their own (frisbee, yoga mat, wiffle ball, etc.). I think this will help relieve some of the stress students feel in my class that they don't have in other classes. Pe is a great place for students to develop their social and emotional learning. Everyday I push them to work with new students, build friendships while learning how to be a team. The equipment that we are buying to play team sports will continue to encourage students to find a place of belonging within a team here in class. As I stated earlier, I encourage my students to find ways to work through the stresses COVID has put on them. Many of them have found comfort in activities like Yoga and meditation that allow them to take a moment to be peaceful. The yoga matts I would like to purchase are slightly thicker and will be very useful to students how have sensitive knees. Others prefer to work through their stress while playing sports in class.
