Have you ever been on a trip or vacation? Relaxing on the beach or skiing down a mountain? Although most of us can say we have, some of my students may not be able to experience these things. I believe reading gives them an experience to escape from reality and "travel" where ever they wish. My 23 second grade students attend a Title 1 school in South Carolina that has had to deal with many budget cuts over the last several years. Despite the cuts, I feel that my students should still have every opportunity to become lifelong readers.
