Our students read for pleasure as well as to improve reading ability. Students can identify and connect with simple story lines with building block sight works for success in reading books geared towards their current personal reading levels. Easy reader books establish confidence and independent reading habits with engaging, simple stories and limited pages. Short chapters encourage the reader to focus on the plot and comprehension. Familiar series and characters build independence when choosing books. Children who had strong early reading skills in their native Spanish language when they entered kindergarten experienced greater growth in their ability to read English from kindergarten through fourth grade.
