I would love to provide my students with a corner of my classroom specifically designed to help them de-stress whenever necessary. Whenever a student is acting out, having a hard time paying attention, or just overall struggling, they will be able to go sit in this comfortable area that is still in view of the teacher and calm down. Overall, I want the area to have a calming feel for students within the furniture and the decorations. I would love to include coloring pages and fidget toys for students that need something else to focus their minds on for the time that they are there. I'd also like to have comfortable seating options, such as the beanbag, and the soft rug paired with the lap desk that students can use while sitting on the floor. The fluorescent light covers will be used throughout the entire classroom to help prevent irritation and headaches for the entire class. I've done a lot of research on the topic including areas like my comfort corner and when done right, really benefits the students that take advantage of it. My goal is to have my classroom feel like an escape from all the other generic classrooms in the school. Students spend all day in variations of the same classroom and I want mine to feel like a breath of fresh air. I want my students to know that I care about their emotional wellbeing and this comfort corner is a great way to emphasize that.
