I have a fantastic group of fourth graders that are working hard to become self-motivated, independent, and ambitious lifelong learners. Not all, but many of my students have lived in cars, foster homes, public housing, with extended famliy members, and have taken taxi cabs to school since the time they were in kindergarten. These kids are the most resilient human beings I know. They overcome the hurdles that come with the adverse effects of childhood trauma. When they come to school this is their home. I strive to provide a comfortable and safe learning environment so that when the students lives are turned upside down outside of school they know they have a safe stable learning evironment made up of their school family. I teach at a Title I school in Alaska that is 100% free lunch for all students. I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful and deserving these children are. I feel lucky to be their teacher!
