I want to give my students the opportunity to learn independently with hands-on activities. With only a half-day program my students don't get much time to play. With hands-on learning centers, students could have the opportunity to learn while feeling like they are playing. Hands-on learning centers not only benefit the students with play but they allow the kids to work independently so the teacher can pull back small groups to work with students who need extra help. When students are given activities that are complicated to figure out they often need help. Having activities such as stack and build simple words, Lakeshore counting cones, and it's a snap addition that is playing but allow kids to learn at the same time give the kids independence and a chance to socially interact with others and practice those skills as well. It is beneficial for the students to feel like they are playing, after all, they are only 5 and 6 and still need to play in their life. Hands-on activities such as classroom magnetics operations kit, snap and build CVC words, addition and subtraction flip solve boards, and squeeze scoop and count ice cream make it feel less like "school work" and more like play. Being able to pull out these centers easily is also helpful as a teacher. The prep is quick and I know that my students are still getting the practice they need with Math and literacy skills. It would be so fun and helpful for my students to be able to have these hands-on centers to work with.
