Students connect best to the past when they can touch it, smell it, and create it. I have asked for dip pens to write our journals like the early pioneers of the 1800's. We will also all make medicine pouches like the trappers that spent time in northern Utah. The pandemic has left many students with emotional disconnect. Being able to create helps them stay positive and allows them to use their hands and move around the room in a class that often has to be discovered in books and videos. This project will allow me to take them out of a book or video and bring history into our classroom.
